Shepherd’s doctorate was the university’s first doctoral degree of any kind, launched in 2015 with a cohort of fifteen, and it is taught at the Martinsburg Center rather than the main campus. Instruction mixes face-to-face, hybrid and online formats instead of committing to one. Three entries run: from a bachelor’s, and from a master’s into either family or psychiatric mental health practice. If you hold a master’s in nursing but are not certified as a practitioner, the school runs an individual transcript evaluation to work out what transfers, so what you owe is settled against your record rather than a published figure. The stated focus is care for vulnerable populations, which in West Virginia means something concrete about where graduates end up working.
