No school matches every filter. Clear one, or widen the tuition ceiling.
How To Use The DNP Program Finder
Start with the filter that rules the most schools out for you. For most nurses that is the entry route: a DNP you enter with a BSN is a three- to four-year program that includes advanced practice preparation, and one you enter with a master’s is much shorter. That is why the route is the first thing to set. BSN to DNP, MSN to DNP and post-master’s each have a ranked page of their own.
Then set state if you need to study near home. For a practice doctorate the binding limit is usually where you can complete your clinical hours, not where the classroom is, so a distance program in another state is only a real option if it places students where you live. Ask that before you apply.
Sorting by tuition or by conferrals is a sort, not a ranking. For schools ordered on a stated rubric, use the national ranking or the most affordable list.
What Each Filter Can And Cannot Tell You
Entry route. A route appears on a row only where the school’s own pages confirm it, checked on 2026-09-08. 125 schools confirm BSN to DNP, 77 confirm MSN to DNP and 166 confirm a post-master’s entry. Many more run these routes without saying so in a way a crawl could settle, so a missing label means “not established here”, never “not offered”.
Specialty track. Taken from the federal classification each program is filed under, not from marketing copy. Most schools file under general nursing practice, which is why the general track is by far the largest.
Distance delivery. 144 schools report at least one DNP program as offered at a distance to the federal survey. It is the school’s own report and it does not say how many campus visits the program requires.
Tuition. Average annual tuition for full-time graduate students in 2023-24, as each institution reports it to the federal survey: not a per-credit DNP price, not the total cost of the program and not what you pay after aid. Some DNP programs add a tuition differential on top of the general graduate rate, so confirm the doctoral price with the school.
Yellow Ribbon. 257 schools report taking part to the federal education survey. It is an institution-level agreement, and schools can cap the number of students or the amount per degree level, so confirm the doctoral terms with the school. A dash in the tuition column. The school files its DNP conferrals under a specialty classification rather than under nursing practice, so the federal survey reports no figure against the doctorate. The program is accredited and running. Yale, Johns Hopkins, Georgetown, Northeastern and Purdue all show a dash for this reason.
